LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – North Las Vegas police are expected to release more details of a shooting that took the lives of an officer and the suspect.

The shooting happened Tuesday, Feb. 4. in the area of Camino Al Norte and Lone Mountain Road. The officer who died was identified as Jason Roscow. The suspect was Alexander Mathis, 25.

Police say a second officer was involved, Luis Macias-Venegas. It’s not yet known if he was injured or the extent of his involvement.

Police said they responded to someone who pointed a firearm at someone else. When officers arrived, they tried to contact the suspect but he ignored commands.

The suspect would flee. Police found the suspect armed. They gave commands to show his hands, but the suspect ignored them again and started to approach officers.

Gunfire was exchanged. Both Roscow and Mathis died at UMC.

The press conference is expected to start at 11 a.m. FOX5 plans to be there and will stream through the video player above.
