LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The North Las Vegas City Council has agreed to pay a deaf woman $1.2 million to settle a lawsuit she filed against the city and its police chief over a 2021 encounter with an officer.
Andrea Hollingsworth sued the city under the Americans with Disabilities Act following an incident in April 2021. She claimed a police officer pushed her to the ground and handcuffed her, according to body camera video presented as evidence in the case.
Hollingsworth alleged that the encounter escalated because the officer ignored her deafness and failed to accommodate her disability during the interaction. The parties reached an agreement on the settlement late last year. The city council’s vote Tuesday night made the settlement official.
Body camera footage from the incident was presented as part of Hollingsworth’s case against the city and the police chief.
