Nursery chair recalled months after FOX5 reported its USB port sparked on video

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — FOX5 previously reported a nursery chair that sparked with a mother and her baby on it. Now, months later, it’s under a recall.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled the popular nursery chair “Babyletto Kiwi Electronic Recliner and Swivel Gliders with USB port.” Officials say it’s “due to overheating hazard.”

FOX5 first reported about the chair back in February, when Las Vegas mom Angelica Colletto reached out to us. She shared video of the chair sparking up while she was in it with her baby.

A Las Vegas mom jumps into action when a popular nursery chair sparks up.

The video shows Colletto rocking her baby on the chair, then she jumps up after noticing sparks from the USB port.

Colletto wanted to make sure other parents were warned. Turns out, she’s not alone.

In addition to reaching out to FOX5, Colletto also reached out to the CEO of Babyletto. She said they took the chairs to investigate and refunded her.

FOX5 had also reached out to the CEO for the first report and were told the chair would be evaluated at an independent and accredited testing lab.

“I am taking them at their word to find out which chairs, if any, were affected,” Colletto said back in February.

FOX5 also reached out back in April and the CEO said “We are getting results in the next week. We’ve had several meetings with them already and they are finalizing their conclusions.”

Just days ago, CPSC issued their recall saying they received “37 reports of incidents of overheating, smoking or sparking including one minor injury.”

On the CPSC website, it says 9,030 units were sold.

If you have the chair in your home, you are asked to reach out to Babyletto at [email protected], as they are offering a free at home repair kit.

FOX5 has reached out to the CEO again after the recall to learn more about the steps taken to get to investigate the chairs; however, we have not heard back.

Colletto tells FOX5 the CEO personally called her and thanked her for bringing this to his attention.
