LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said computing is undergoing two massive platform shifts powered by artificial intelligence and new software development methods during his keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Huang framed the moment as a historic reset for the computing industry, similar to past shifts from personal computers to the internet, and from the internet to cloud and mobile computing. He said this transition is even bigger, saying that AI is growing fast as well as the ability to move more applications on top of AI.

AI as new computing platform

Huang told the audience that artificial intelligence is not just another technology upgrade but a new computing platform. Unlike traditional software that is written line by line, modern AI systems are trained, changing how developers build and run applications.

He described this era as a shift from digital AI, like language models and chatbots, toward “physical AI” — systems that can understand and act in the real world, not just behind a screen.

Nvidia Cosmos and synthetic data

Central to that strategy is Nvidia Cosmos, a tool designed to generate synthetic data and help AI learn about the physical world through simulation. The technology is crucial for applications like robotics and autonomous vehicles.

Alpamayo AI models for vehicles

One of the biggest announcements was Alpamayo, a family of AI models that bring reasoning and decision-making to autonomous vehicles. Unlike conventional self-driving systems that only recognize objects and plan basic routes, Nvidia says Alpamayo can think about unusual scenarios and adapt.

In partnership with Mercedes-Benz, Nvidia says the Mercedes-Benz CLA will be one of the first production cars equipped with this new AI stack, scheduled to begin rolling out in 2026.

Vera Rubin computing platform

Huang also confirmed Nvidia’s next-generation computing platform, Vera Rubin, is already in full production, promising up to 10 times lower operating cost for AI inference than current systems.
