LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The officer involved in a southwest Las Vegas police shooting was identified.

Police said the shooting happened Saturday afternoon in the 6100 block of Allen Cove Court, near Durango and Patrick.

When officers arrived on scene, they heard a gunshot coming from a home. Police said there were no officers injured.

A man exited the house armed with a gun. Officers gave verbal commands, however, he did not drop it.

The man reportedly pointed the gun at officers and that’s when Larry Jones fired. The shooting struck the suspect. He was transported to a local hospital where he would later die.

The 27-year-old has been employed by Las Vegas Metro Police sine 2019. He is assigned to the Community Safety Division, Summerlin Area Command.

Metro says he has been placed on routine leave
