LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — One person died in a crash Monday morning in central Las Vegas, officials said.
The crash occurred just after 10:30 a.m. on eastbound Washington Avenue near Decatur Boulevard, according to officials.
Dispatchers received reports of a collision involving an SUV that ended up under a semi-truck. When first responders arrived, they found people trapped and worked to free them. One person died at the scene, officials said.
According to law enforcement officials, the driver of the semi-truck was taken into custody on suspicion of impairment.
Authorities advised commuters to avoid the area, as Washington Avenue remained closed in both directions from Decatur Boulevard to Spyglass Lane.
Crews from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded. Officials said the scene was still active.
