LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas man is dead and two others are seriously injured following a hit-and-run crash in the southern valley Friday night.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the crash occurred around 10:52 p.m. on Desert Inn Road and Channel 8 Drive, near Las Vegas Boulevard. Police determined that a 2006 Infiniti G 35 was traveling east on DI, behind an unidentified dark-colored SUV.
The Infiniti approached the SUV at a high speed, swerved to avoid hitting it, but ultimately struck the left rear side. The Infiniti then lost control and rotated clockwise, hitting a roadside attenuator and overturning.
One of the passengers was ejected onto the roadway, police say, and would die at the scene.
The Infiniti driver and front-right passenger were transported to Sunrise Hospital with moderate and substantial injuries. Police add that the driver of the Infiniti did not show signs of impairment.
The dark-colored SUV failed to remain at the scene of the collision and fled eastbound on East Desert Inn Road.
“The passenger’s death marks the 103rd traffic-related fatality in the LMVPD’s jurisdiction for 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release. “This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Sections Fatal Detail.”
