LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – In Los Angeles County, many people are rushing to flee the flames and taking their small pets with them, but larger animals like horses may still be in need of refuge from the fires.

Dramatic video from the Eaton Fire shows people desperately trying to save their horses, leading them through a street surrounded by flames. “We have a couple we just let loose over there; we’re trying to get as many as we can out.”

After seeing videos like this, Second Chance Farm in Pahrump decided to open its stables for horses and other farm animals displaced in the fires in Los Angeles County.

“I just can’t imagine what those people are going through because I have my own pets, and I can feel the pain in their eyes,” said Yaileny Selma at Second Chance Farm. “They probably are desperate because they maybe can carry a dog, but if they have two horses, what are they going to do with two horses?”

Second Chance Farm has the room to take in horses, goats, pigs and more.

And Selma says if someone has a trailer available — they’re even willing to transport the animals to Pahrump themselves.

“I know I’m not there, and I know I’m far, but at least we can get a few here or we can help somehow, I want to try,” she said.

The people at Second Chance Farm also speak Spanish in case of any language barriers.

If anyone you know needs housing for an animal displace in the fires — or you have a trailer that can help with transport — reach out to the farm here.
