Parents of mother killed in Summerlin law office shooting sue shooter’s wife

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The parents of a woman shot and killed in a Summerlin law office shooting last year, have filed a lawsuit against the wife and law firm of the gunman.

On April 8, 2024, Joseph Houston pulled out a gun during a deposition hearing involving his wife, Katherine, and fatally shot Ashley Prince, their son Dylan’s ex-wife, and her new husband, Dennis Prince. The deposition was part of a larger custody battle over Ashley and Dylan’s two children.

Houston then turned the gun on himself.

The lawsuit filed Friday in Clark County District Court alleges that Katherine left the room during the shooting, and “did not attempt to talk to her husband about his actions” or check on the victims in the aftermath.

“…At no point did Katherine return to the room, despite her husband shooting two innocent people,” the filing reads.

The lawsuit further claims that Katherine then transferred multiple properties into her name weeks later and denied creditor claims from Ashley Prince’s estate.

Prince family attorneys are also accusing Katherine and Dylan Houston of having prior knowledge of the deadly shooting, highlighting one email Dylan sent to Ashley, which read, “You have no idea what’s coming, do you? All your cards are on the table, and I haven’t played one.”

Katherine Houston and her husband’s company are being accused of negligence, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, assault, battery, and civil conspiracy.

As of Monday morning, no hearing has been scheduled for this case.
