LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — With the success of the Summerlin South Little League team, which awaits a showdown with the Metro Region team on Wednesday, Eddie and Sheena Gallegos and Evan Greusel have much in common: pride, confidence and gratitude for the support their sons have received from the Las Vegas Valley as they press on further into the tournament.
“We are so grateful for the support back in Vegas,” said Greusel, whose son Dustin hit a two-run single to put the team up 4-0 en route to a 16-1 win on Wednesday. “The donations, the casinos that are putting up signs, the donations, the sponsorships, text messages, reposts. We’re definitely feeling the love out here.”
The parents described the coverage as surreal. From ESPN to massive crowds, Eddie Gallegos said it’s been hard to contextualize watching his son, Garrett, in the Little League World Series.
“Somebody told me, ‘Do you guys realize how big this is?’ But it’s like, no, we’re here,” Eddie Gallegos said. “We’re in another world. We’re in another world out here.”
While each parent is proud of their child’s achievements, they made a point to acknowledge the team that joins them on the diamond for each Little League World Series game, saying that the team representing the Mountain Region has some of the best contact hitters in the tournament.
“One through 12, all the kids can hit the ball,” said Sheena Gallegos. “And we also have a lot of great pitchers, too.”

Those players have led the team to within one win of a spot in the tournament’s U.S. Championship Game on Saturday. Not an easy path, Greusel said, each team that remains in the Little League World Series presents a challenge.
“Every team that’s left here is good. Every team that was here is good,” Greusel said.
As to how far the road to the championship will lead the team from Summerlin South, Greusel said predictions are impossible, since the games will be determined by each pitcher and hitter. The Gallegos family agreed.
“You just have to be ready for anything, really,” Sheena said.
Greusel summed it up in Vegas terms.
“We’re just playing with house money right now.”
The Summerlin South team will take on the Metro Region on Wednesday at noon for a berth in the U.S. Championship Game on Saturday.
