LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A pedestrian died early Sunday morning after being struck by a motorcycle in the south valley, marking the 16th traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police jurisdiction this year.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:39 a.m. on South Decatur Boulevard, south of West Post Road, according to police.

A 2008 Suzuki GSX650F motorcycle was traveling southbound in the farthest left travel lane when a pedestrian crossed from west to east across Decatur Boulevard, police said. The front of the motorcycle struck the pedestrian, redirecting him south onto the roadway.

The motorcycle rider was ejected from the motorcycle in a southern direction onto the roadway, police said.

Emergency Medical Services transported the pedestrian to University Medical Center Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving measures, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The pedestrian, a Las Vegas man between 40 and 50 years old, has not been identified pending notification of next of kin. The motorcyclist was also transported to UMC with critical injuries.

The motorcycle rider showed no signs of impairment, police said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
