LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A pedestrian is fighting for their life and a driver is in custody following a Friday night crash off of the Las Vegas Strip.
Around 11:45 p.m., police determined that a two-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian occurred at South Decatur Boulevard and West Tropicana Avenue, near the Orleans.
An initial investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department indicated that a Lexus GS350 was traveling south on Decatur while a Chevrolet Malibu was stopped at a red light, facing north on Decatur. Additionally, a female pedestrian was standing on the southwest sidewalk at the intersection of Decatur and Tropicana.
The driver of the Chevrolet disobeyed the red light and entered the intersection to make a left turn, crossing the Lexus’ path of travel. The front of the Lexus collided with the right side of the Chevrolet, which redirected onto the sidewalk and collided with the pedestrian.
Arriving first responders transported the pedestrian to the UMC Trauma Center, where she was admitted with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to UMC as well for moderate injuries. She was also placed under arrest on DUI-related charges after displaying signs of impairment.
Additionally, the driver of the Lexus was transported by medical personnel to the UMC Trauma Center for “claimed” injuries.
This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section.
