LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that a pedestrian walking in a crosswalk suffered life-threatening injuries in a Wednesday morning crash.
According to an LVMPD report, the crash happened at approximately 11:07 a.m. on W. Owens Ave. east of Stocker. Evidence at the scene, witness statements and video surveillance indicated that a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling east on Owens in the left-most travel lane approaching Stocker.
Police said that a pedestrian was crossing Owens in a marked crosswalk from south to north and an RTC Para-Transit bus stopped in the right-most travel lane to allow the pedestrian to cross. The Chevrolet passed the RTC bus and failed to yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk.
A crash occurred when the Chevrolet made an evasive movement to avoid the pedestrian, and the right side of the Chevrolet hit the pedestrian, projecting him in a southeast direction. The Chevrolet then crossed the center median and the westbound lanes of Owens Avenue.
The Chevrolet entered a private drive and continued in a northeast direction. The Chevrolet continued through a private property fence and came to rest in a vacant lot.
Arriving medical personnel took the pedestrian to the University Medical Center’s Trauma Unit for injuries determined to be life-threatening. The Chevrolet’s driver remained at the collision scene and showed no signs of impairment.
The crash remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.
