LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – WhatsApp connects more than two billion people globally, and all are vulnerable to the latest scam involving the messaging platform.

Here’s how it works: Cybercriminals will send you an image with malware embedded into it. When you open the image, that malware infects your device, and that gives bad actors access to all your accounts and all your money.

Tens of thousands of people worldwide have lost millions to this scam.

Fortunately, it’s fairly easy to protect yourself. Always be suspicious of any message from unknown or unfamiliar contacts. Never click on attachments of links from senders you don’t recognize. Enable two-factor authentication to increase security. And, if you do get a suspicious message, report it to WhatsApp and block the sender.
