Person cited after dog abandoned outside Las Vegas animal shelter

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The person who tied a dog to a pole and abandoned it outside an animal shelter in Las Vegas has been cited for the incident, county officials said Tuesday.

Clark County Animal Protection Services identified and tracked down the person who abandoned the dog at the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals location. That person was cited for abandonment, deprivation of water and deprivation of shelter, officials said.

The update stems from an incident on July 11, when a dog was tied to a pole outside a Nevada SPCA location in Las Vegas.

“Security footage from Nevada SPCA captured the vehicle and license plate of the individuals suspected of abandoning the dog,” officials said in a news release at the time.

Staffers helped the dog, who officials said was highly fearful, with cooling misters and water. The high temperature in the Las Vegas area on July 11 was 108 degrees.

According to Clark County officials, the dog in the case was impounded as a stray and remains in custody, available for transfer or adoption.
