PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Phoenix man has turned himself in for allegedly assaulting officers during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Federal authorities announced 35-year-old David Caleb Crosby was taken into custody by the FBI in Phoenix on Wednesday.
According to court documents, Crosby allegedly confronted officers who were attempting to hold a police line on the U.S. Capitol’s Lower West Plaza. He reportedly used “his back and body to repeatedly ram into bike racks serving as police barricades,” officials said.
Recorded videos reportedly show Crosby repeatedly backing into the police line even as officers shoved him away and told him to back up. Two officers used a “super soaker” to spray chemicals in an effort to get Crosby to back away.
However, investigators say after he was sprayed, he continued to ram his back into the police line, encouraging other people to do the same. Police eventually pulled him over the top of the barricades and detained him.
“His alleged actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the 2020 presidential election,” investigators said in a statement.
Crosby is being charged with the following:
- Assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers
- Entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds
- Engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds
- Disorderly conduct in a Capitol building or grounds
- Engaging in an act of physical violence in the grounds or any of the Capitol buildings
He is also the 20th person arrested in connection to the Capitol breach who is from Arizona or has Arizona ties.
Since the Capitol riot, more than 1,500 people have been charged in nearly every state. Over 590 people were charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
Crosby will make his initial appearance in the District of Arizona. Anyone with tips can call 1-800-CALL-FBI (800-225-5324) or visit tips.fbi.gov.
