Planned Parenthood sues Nevada over 40-year old bill from becoming law

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Planned Parenthood has filed a lawsuit against the State of Nevada over a bill passed in the state legislature 40 years ago.

The original Senate Bill 510 would require doctors to notify parents if their child under the age of 18 unmarried wanted an abortion.

In April, a judge ruled the 1991 injunction against the Nevada law was no longer applicable.

When it passed in 1985, it was challenged in appeals courts and deemed unconstitutional.

You may remember in 2023 the supreme court overturned Roe v. Wade changing abortion laws nationwide.

Two different Nevada District attorneys believe with Roe v. Wade overturned the decades old bill should be vacated.

Planned Parenthood says the law has many health and safety challenges citing why it was originally blocked in the first place.

The lawsuit seeks a court order of injunctive relief with hopes of blocking parental notification.
