LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – More human remains and a BMW SUV were recovered during an ongoing investigation into a fatal crash at I-40.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on the fatal multi-vehicle crash at Williams, Arizona on March 13.

Police said investigators confirmed one of the vehicles involved was a BMW SUV. Sunday, more human remains within the debris were recovered from the crash scene.

Agencies are working together to determine if the remains are the missing Korean family that was traveling from Grand Canyon to Las Vegas. They went missing in the area at the time of the collision.

Jiyeon Lee, 23, Taehee Kim, 69, and Junghee Kim, 64, were all traveling together in a white BMW rental car with California license plates – 9KHN768.

“The intensity and prolonged duration of the fire that ensued during the collision have posed significant challenges for identification efforts,” the sheriff’s department said. “Due to the extent of the damage, the process of identifying the remains requires meticulous examination. The Yavapai County Medical Examiner’s Office is diligently working to ascertain whether identification is possible.”

Police are asking for patience and understanding as their teams continue to work the case with care and precision.
