LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – FOX5 is learning more about an overnight apartment fire that sparked in the south valley early Thursday morning.

Around 1:09 a.m., Las Vegas Metro Police responded to calls about a man armed with a hammer that injured a female at Shadow Ridge Apartment Homes on Arville Street.

Arriving officers located the man and took him into custody, while the female was treated by medical units on scene.

Officers also learned that after leaving the apartment, the man set the inside of the apartment on fire with an unknown item. Clark County Fire Department was called to the scene at 1:50 a.m. and discovered flames coming from the first floor of the building.

Five engines responded to the scene and extinguished the fire before it spread to other nearby units.
