Power outage closes college campus in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — According to a post on social media, the College of Southern Nevada’s Charleston Campus has been closed due to a power outage.

Initially, the post said that classes have been canceled until 5 p.m. An update from the campus just before 5 p.m. said all classes have been cancelled for the rest of the day and night.

“We do not expect NV Energy to have power restored to the CSN Charleston Campus immediately,” CSN says. “Given that, we have closed the campus for the rest of the day.”

An outage affecting 261 customers was reported by NV Energy in the area of the Charleston Campus around 2 p.m. The cause of the outage was still under investigation.

Just over 2,300 NV Energy customers were affected by 35 outages across Clark County Thursday.

NV Energy posted a reminder to customers that thunderstorm activity across the state could cause outages.

“Please know our crews are on standby to restore power as quickly and safely as possible when an outage occurs,” officials said. “We appreciate your patience.”
