LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The price tag on the future home of the Oakland A’s has shot up by a quarter-billion dollars, according to new county documents.
The cost to build the ballpark has jumped from $1.5 billion to $1.75 billion. The developer chalked the increase up to an increase in the cost of materials due to inflation and the addition of 70,000 square feet of amenities.
The increased price tag will be reviewed by the Las Vegas Stadium Authority Board this Thursday. The lease agreement will also be reviewed during the meeting, as will the A’s provided sources for the funding of the ballpark.
A’s owner John Fisher is expected to provide up to $1.1 billion in funding and use $350 million of the $380 million earmarked by Senate Bill 1.
According to the development agreement, any cost increases that pop up in the coming months, including this most recent spike, fall on the team to cover.
If all goes as planned, the ballpark is expected to break ground in 2025. Players are expected to take the field in 2028.
While construction and negotiations are underway, the Oakland A’s are expected to play the next three seasons in Sacramento.
