LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — City leaders in Las Vegas and North Las Vegas moved forward this week on a slate of park and trail improvements, approving funding and outlining projects planned across the valley.
During Wednesday’s Las Vegas City Council meeting, members approved an agreement with the Southern Nevada Health District to use a $50,000 federal grant to install solar lighting along the Las Vegas Wash Trail. The lights are expected to improve safety and curb vandalism and copper theft on the stretch between Doug Selby Park, East Las Vegas Family Park, and Arroyo Vista Park.
Council members also took an initial step toward approving the city’s fiscal year 2027 budget, which includes multiple parks and recreation projects currently under construction or planned.
Those projects include:
- Rancho/Oakey Dog Park
- Lorenzi Park court and clubhouse expansion
- A regional aquatic center at Pavilion Pool
- West Las Vegas Arts Center and theater
- East Las Vegas Family Dog Park
- Skye Canyon Park at Grand Teton and Hualapai
- Pickleball complex at Wayne Bunker Park
- Igor Soldo Memorial Park in Skye Canyon
- Nevada State Veterans Memorial at Thunderbird Park

The final budget is expected to return to council later this year.
In North Las Vegas, city leaders approved $79,500 for new fencing, gates, and bollards at Craig Ranch Park.
Officials say the upgrades will help secure the park when it closes overnight and are also expected to open up additional parking spaces.
