LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – North Las Vegas is planning a massive new development, and they want the public’s help in shaping it.
North of the VA Hospital and the 215 Beltway, a stretch of desert is being reimagined as a complete city – Tule Springs East.
“We want to hear from the residents. What do they think? And not just even the residents, just people in southern Nevada,” said North Las Vegas City Manager, Micaela Moore. “What do they think makes a complete city?”
The city launched a three-week survey, hoping to gather community input on everything from housing to open space and even a UNLV campus.
“We want to see the type of housing that people want,” explained Moore. “Do they want more low density? Do they want more mixed-use? Do they want rural? So those are the kinds of questions that we want to ask.”
City leaders explained one major goal is to build a job creation zone anchored by health care and research.
“As part of a complete city, we would like to see people to be born here,” Moore said. “Right now, we don’t have a medical facility where there’s a labor and delivery.”
The plan also includes conservation, walkability, smart infrastructure, and most importantly a vision shaped by the people who live here.
“Really a once-in-a-lifetime type of opportunity to provide input on what an area is going to look like. It’s like a blueprint for a massive acreage, 7000 acres to be exact.”
The city said they hope feedback will help shape the development plan expected to be finalized this summer.
