LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The UNLV men’s golf team sits in fifth place after shooting a 1-under 575 through Monday’s opening two rounds.
The All-American Intercollegiate being co-hosted by Houston and Rice at the Golf Club of Houston Tournament Course (par 72, 7,425 yards).
REBEL ROUNDUP: The Rebels are guided by their senior duo’s below par scorecards, with Trevor Lewis standing in a tie for eighth at 3-under and Caden Fioroni in a tie for 13th at 1-under. Following the Scarlet & Gray leaders, sophomore Dillon Dean (+3) is tied for 36th, sophomore Zach Little (+4) follows in a tie for 44th and junior Wyatt Plattner (+5) rounds them out in a tie for 48th.
INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT: Leading UNLV’s players not attached to the team in the individual tournament on the Member Course (par 72, 7,508 yards), senior Ben Sawaia ended the day in a tie for first at 4-under. Joining him in that field are juniors Brett Sawaia (E) in fifth and Billy Smith (+10) in a tie for 30th.
TEAM & INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD: Houston posted a 21-under 55 through 36 holes to grab the day-one lead and an 11-shot advantage over Troy (-11) in second. The Cougars’ Chi Chun Chen took the individual lead in the team tournament at 9-under for a three-shot lead over his teammate Jacob Burrow (-6).
UP NEXT: The tournament concludes with Tuesday’s final round set for a 6 a.m. PT/8 a.m. CT start.
