LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV women’s soccer used two unanswered goals in the final 13 minutes to overcome an early deficit for a 2-1 comeback win over Colorado College in its Mountain West home opener Thursday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Behind junior Mallie Ramirez’s 86th-minute game-winner and sophomore Trinity Buchanan’s 78th-minute equalizer against the Tigers (5-6-1, 1-2-0), the Rebels (4-6-1, 2-1) earned the three points in the Mountain West standings for the second consecutive Thursday match to start conference play.

Junior Cadence Whitley’s passing sparked each UNLV goal as she recorded a career-high two assists in the contest.

Those two helpers included a corner to the far post headed in by Buchanan and then the direct placement to Ramirez into the box off her cross from outside the corner of the 18.

Also playing a pivotal role in the win, junior goalkeeper Hanne Breur and the rest of the Scarlet & Gray backline held the Tigers out of the net for the final 80 minutes after a 10th-minute Tiger goal. During that time, the Rebels deterred the final 12 Colorado College shots and Breur ended the match with four saves.

QUOTABLE: “This was a well-deserved win for the group. I thought the team showed great fight in the second half to overcome adversity. It was a very together effort and resilient win tonight.”-UNLV Head Coach Jenny Williams
