LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – UNLV women’s soccer rolled to its second straight victory at home in Mountain West action after topping Air Force, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

With the result against the Falcons (5-4-2, 1-2-1), the Rebels (5-6-1, 3-1-0) ended the weekend with six points during their homestand and their first 3-1 start to MW play since the 2016 season.

Sophomore Trinity Buchanan, who finished the match with three points, opened the Scarlet & Gray scoring with her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 25th minute. She received a long rocket of a pass from freshman Summer Pyles – her first career assist – and then beat two defenders into the box before sliding the ball past the keeper.

The final two Rebel scores came from junior Hannah Swanis in the 40th minute and senior Kennedi Schmidt in the 63rd minute. Swanis put the Scarlet & Gray up 2-1 with her first career goal off a scrum for the ball and Schmidt was on the receiving end of a double assist from Buchanan and junior Savannah Nichols in front of the net for her third career goal.

In net for the Rebels, junior goalkeeper Hanne Breur picked up her fifth win of the season with the Scarlet & Gray backline. She racked up for saves as the team deterred 16 total shots by the Falcons.

“It feels really good. Anytime we have success I’m really happy for the team. They deserve every bit of this because of how hard they work and now it’s all coming together. Sunday always requires a full team performance and that’s what we saw.” said, UNLV Head Coach Jenny Williams.

UP NEXT: UNLV will ride its momentum back on the road next week with contests at Fresno State on Thursday and at San Jose State on Sunday.

NOTES:

  • UNLV continued its display of aggressive attacking, recording double-digit shot attempts for the 11th time overall in 12 games this season. The Rebels finished with 13 targets in the match vs. the Falcons.
  • This marked the fourth time the Rebels scored three goals in a winning performance. UNLV previously topped Southern Utah and CSU Bakersfield by 3-1 final scores during non-conference play and New Mexico 3-0 in the conference opener.
