LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — After a recent roundup, a handful of wild horses still on Mt. Charleston will be allowed stay.

According to U.S. Forest officials, the horses still in the Lee Canyon area will remain there for the time being.

The Forest Service wants to remind people that they must keep the horses wild and it’s against the law to pet or feed them.

Those seen doing so are subject to a citation.

This comes after residents protested on the mountain after federal officials were rounding up a herd of horses.

Officials say there were too many dangerous encounters and that’s when the decision was made to take them.

Those that were taken are now at a federal facility in Utah, waiting to be adopted.
