LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas man is accused of injuring three teens after opening fire in a neighborhood last Friday.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, 25-year-old Novantea Cordero is facing charges of attempted murder, assault, and discharging a gun into an occupied structure. On Friday, April 12 around 9:21 p.m., police dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting in an undisclosed neighborhood.

One report stated that a 13-year-old had been shot, and was knocking on nearby doors to ask for help. Arriving officers located the teen and saw that he was suffering from a gunshot wound to his left arm and the rear of his neck. He was shortly transported to UMC Hospital for treatment.

Police learned that an unidentified girl was also transported to UMC by her mother.

An interview with one of the victims revealed that the shooting stemmed from a fight between two females earlier in the day, which was broken up by police and security officers. Once the groups were split up, the victims’ group decided to meet up at the scene of the shooting to continue the fight and “settle the score,” according to the report.

Once they arrived, the victim told police that they could hear a man yelling, asking why they arrived “four cars deep.” He also warned the group – which police later confirmed to be mostly middle-school-age teens – that he would “start blowin’,” if everyone approached.

The victim said the shooting began less than two minutes after everyone exited their vehicles, causing the group to scatter and run in different directions. Several people, including the victim, were hiding in nearby bushes while gunshots continued to ring out.

“[Redacted] said she was in fear for her life during the shooting and stated she could hear the rounds, ‘fly by my ears’,” the report noted.

The victim also told police she witnessed her cousin get shot in her left while hiding, and another teen get hit after running for a nearby vehicle.

An investigation also revealed that a bullet traveled through a nearby home, passing through the garage and coming to rest inside a cabinet in the kitchen. Another passed through a second-story window, according to the report, though no injuries were reported.

Cordero was taken into custody by police on Sunday, April 14 around 5:00 p.m. During an initial search, police recovered two 9mm cartridges, a Glock 9mm handgun, a magazine, and blood-covered clothing from inside the residence.

Cordero is facing two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, 11 counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and three counts of attempted murder. He made his initial appearance in court on Wednesday, April 17.

He is due back in court on Thursday, May 2.
