LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A report from the Clark County School District Police Department shared texts between a substitute and a student during a romantic relationship.
FOX5 obtained documents for Kurt Tumbagahan’s arrest. He’s a 25-year-old accused of an inappropriate relationship with a juvenile.
An investigation started Jan. 7 at Valley High School.
A CCSD officer was advised that he had inappropriate contact with a student. At the school, police interviewed the student.
She said Tumbagahan was a long term substitute for her seventh grade English class.
The student told police they connected through a similar interest, playing the trumpet. Police say the student participated in lessons after class and they would talk on the side.
Before winter break, they exchanged numbers. Police said they started to meet outside school and would listen to music inside his car.
According to the report, they started to be romantic.
Police obtained a search warrant for Tumbagahan. Police found text messages between the two.
The two would say they missed and loved each other and feared what would happen if others found out.
In one text, Tumbagahan said, “There is a lot of risk. I’d be sent back to my home country ‘cause I am not a citizen.”
Police also took in samples from him for DNA testing. During an examination of the student, she had bite marks on her upper body.
He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Jan. 29.
