LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department describes how a Las Vegas mother was stabbed and found dead by one of her three young children late January of this year.

Police identified the suspect in this stabbing as 34-year-old David Perry. He was arrested by Kentucky police in Louisville on a warrant for open murder with a deadly weapon.

Police said on Jan. 25 around 8:42 a.m., they were notified by the Clark County Fire Department of a “non-natural deceased female” located in the 8700 block of Tom Noon Avenue. This is near Blue Diamond Road and Durango Drive.

Patrol officers arrived and found a female on the floor of a master bedroom with multiple stab wounds. The fire department said she died at the scene.

A search warrant was granted to process the crime scene for evidence. A homicide sergeant identified the deceased as Breyanna Sotomayor.

Police said one of Breyanna’s children, two at the age of six and one who’s 5 years old, facetimed their grandma in California. Police said they showed through the facetime Breyanna laying on the bedroom floor covered in blood.

Police said California authorities requested help in Las Vegas for Breyanna.

Through speaking with her family, detectives learned that Breyanna was evicted from her southwest valley residence. She decided to rent an Airbnb located in the 8700 block of Tom Noon Avenue for 10 days until she could find a new residence.

Her family said Breyanna told them that she didn’t have anyone to help her, so she contacted her ex-boyfriend Perry. The two dated for a couple months in 2023. Police said Perry was previously arrested for domestic battery and strangulation against Breyanna, but he was ultimately released from custody “due to lack of cooperation by Breyanna.” Police also discovered that he has a prior arrest in California.

The two continued to live together until last month when they broke up and Perry eventually moved out.

Breyanna, her children, and Perry arrived at the rental on Jan. 24 around 2:24 p.m.

Interviews with Breyanna’s children revealed that they heard loud banging noises during the night at the rental and their mother yelling, but the children did not leave the room because “it got quiet.”

The next morning, the children said David was gone and they found their mother with blood around her and “would not wake up.”

After the homicide was reported by local news, it’s believed Perry took Breyanna’s phone with him as he left the rental. Perry attempted to contact the victim’s family through a third party where he claimed that “he did not know what happened” and she was still alive when he left, according to the police report.

According to body worn camera from police, officers found that no one entered the rental through the garage after David left that morning.

Because of these facts and circumstances, detectives say they have reason to believe Perry was the person who battered, strangled and stabbed Breyanna multiple times, resulting in her death.

“Probable cause exists to arrest Perry for murder with use of a deadly weapon,” police wrote in the report.
