LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A woman accused of killing a pedestrian and fleeing the scene later turned herself in after seeing the news.
Las Vegas police charged Elizabeth Rodriguez, 23, for failure to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to yield for a pedestrian.
The crash happened on Jan. 19 at 6:52 p.m. at Eastern, south of Owens avenues.
Rodriguez was reportedly driving a blue Nissan when she hit a pedestrian. She fled and the pedestrian later died at the hospital.
According to police, she went home and told her family that she hit a pole on her way home. But after seeing news of the pedestrian’s death, she confessed.
Her family said she needed to turn herself in. The next morning, she visited LVMPD’s headquarters and turned herself in.
She told police she fled the scene because of panic. She said she wasn’t drinking or doing any drugs.
She started to cry. She said it was “selfish” for her to sit ad cry because the person she hit didn’t get to wake up.
LVMPD report the pedestrians death marked the 9th traffic-related fatality in their jurisdiction in 2025 so far.
