LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – An arrest report obtained by FOX5 is providing new details about the moments after a deadly shooting involving two teens in downtown Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on Monday, May 6th around 4:08 a.m. The caller had told officers that his son – identified as 17-year-old Cesar Sandoval Jr. – had “shot his friend” but “would not tell him the details.”

Arriving officers detained Sandoval Jr. once they arrived at the caller’s residence. Sandoval Jr. would then reveal to police that the shooting occurred near St. Louis and 15th Street.

Officers arriving at the scene around 4:46 a.m. located a deceased female in the driver’s seat of a gray Honda. According to the report, the female had a gunshot wound to the head and would later be declared dead at the scene.

Sandoval Jr. would later identify the victim to police as his friend, 18-year-old Jazlynn Johnson. The report notes that Sandoval Jr. reiterated to officers that the shooting “was an accident,” but did not provide further details.

Officers transported Sandoval Jr. to LVMPD Headquarters for questioning. During the interview, Sandoval Jr. told officers that the shooting was “a [expletive] up accident and I hurt my friend,” but later said he would “rather have my lawyer present.”

He added, “…But I will say that it was an accident.”

He also denied knowing where the gun used in the shooting was.

An interview with his parents would reveal that Sandoval Jr. arrived home “hysterical and in a panic” around 3:00 a.m. According to the report, he hugged his mother while crying and repeating, “It was an accident.”

His mother would tell officers that he told her “I [expletive] up, I did something wrong. I shot my friend.” He would also ask his parents not to call the police to report the incident, though his brother would tell him “they had to because he had done something wrong,” according to the report.

Sandoval Jr. was placed under arrest for open murder, destroying/concealing evidence, and being a minor in possession of a firearm, and was booked into Clark County Juvenile Hall.

He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, June 18.
