LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A planned meeting on public safety in Henderson was taken over by the controversial removal of the city’s police chief. Chief Hollie Chadwick was originally scheduled to speak to neighbors about their safety concerns at the meeting but she was pulled into the city’s manager’s office last week and asked to resign or be fired.

Wednesday night, the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center Chief Chadwick’s supporters showed up although the meeting was cancelled. One of Chief Chadwick’s most vocal supporters, Henderson City Councilwoman Carrie Cox, decided to hold the meeting knowing those who elected her wanted to come express their concerns.

“That is why I am standing here tonight. It is not in defiance to the city, what it is is service to all of you,” Cox told the crowd. Henderson community members concerned with public safety showed up to ask questions and Councilwoman Cox wanted to be there to provide answers and transparency.

“I directed the city manager to not cancel my meeting, we were able to work it out,” Cox revealed.

The Ward III Community Connections meeting was originally also to be attended by the mayor and fire and police chiefs but that changed when Chief Chadwick was asked to resign by the city manager.

“I am truly sincerely upset about it, She shows up for us, she shows for our police officers, she is out there and she is transparent,” argued Henderson resident Christine Schaffer.

Majority of those who spoke in support of Chief Chadwick and her work over the last two years as chief and two decades with the department. Schaffer stated she has a lot of friends on the police force who cannot express their support publicly and wants to be a voice for them.

“They are not giving us a reason as to what she has done. That is what I don’t understand… This is not right at all. I am showing up everywhere I can,” explained Schaffer. Councilwoman Cox said she is limited in what she can say but did express that she disagreed with the way the chief’s situation is being handled. “A lot of people reached out to me from our department and officers and just really that is what I have to be concerned about,” Cox contended.

The city did not give a reason for asking Chief Chadwick to step aside but FOX5 sources say it was for union busting activities. Chief Chadwick has been given until March 6th to decide if she will resign or be fired.

A change.org petition to reinstate Chief Chadwick now has nearly 1,600 signatures.
