LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) has secured millions in funding for upcoming safety and security upgrades.

At the RTC’s monthly board meeting on Thursday, March 12, officials announced they had received an $8.8 million Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Bus & Bus Facilities grant.

The funding will be used to purchase CNG buses, install video mirrors, and make safety and security upgrades at the Integrated Bus Maintenance Facility and Mobility Training Center.

According to the Federal Transit Administration, the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities program provides federal funding—by formula and competitive grants—to help replace or rehabilitate buses, buy related equipment, and build or modernize bus facilities, including low- or no-emission upgrades.

Officials announced back in February about $390 million for the project, which will support a total of 34 projects in 19 states and Puerto Rico.

States set to receive funding include Oregon, Tennessee, and Washington.
