LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Salt Lake Bees defeated the Las Vegas Aviators, 9-8 in 10 innings, in the finale of the three-game homestand before a crowd of 5,495 at Las Vegas Ballpark.
Salt Lake swept the series and improved to 12-9 in the second half (44-51 overall) and Las Vegas dropped to 9-11 (46-49 overall). Las Vegas also dropped to 3-1 in extra innings.
The Bees built a 7-0 lead after 2 ½ innings. Second baseman Jack Lopez was 3-for-6, 2 RBI, and two runs scored. Third baseman Michael Stefanic was 3-for-6, double, run scored and right fielder D’Shawn Knowles was 2-for-5, run scored.
The Aviators rallied from a 7-0 deficit to force extra innings. Las Vegas scored six runs in the fourth inning on three home runs: three-run by designated Jordan Diaz (1-for-5); solo by first baseman Armando Alvarez (2-for-3, walk), and a two-run by catcher Carlos Perez (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI). Perez hit an RBI double to center field with two outs in the ninth inning to toe the game at 8-8.
Salt Lake right-hander Zach Plesac pitched 4.0 innings in the no-decision. He allowed 6 hits, and 6 runs, walked 1, and struck out 3 on 68 pitches (45 strikes).
Las Vegas right-hander J.T. Ginn pitched 2.1 innings in the no-decision. He allowed 7 hits, 7 runs (4 earned), walked 3, and struck out 1 on 75 pitches (40 strikes).
Las Vegas, after a PCL off day on Monday, July 22, will embark on a six-game road trip to Northern Nevada to face the Reno Aces, Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, from Tuesday-Sunday, July 23-28.
