CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – A new bill that would allow kids to attend schools outside the one zoned to them is being heard by the State Legislature.

Assembly Bill 533 would allow students to attend those schools, assuming they are not already at capacity.

The bill would require the Superintendent of Public Instruction to establish an application process for a student to apply to attend such a school. That process must include a deadline to submit the application, and a web page containing information about the total number of pupils who transferred between schools, and for each public school, the number of pupils who transferred into and out of each school.

It would also mandate that the Board of Trustees for each school district establish capacity limits for each grade level.
