LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Nevada State Police said a semi-tractor trailer and a minivan caught fire after a wrong-way crash north of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Police said the crash happened Monday, April 14 at 1:51 a.m. on southbound I-15 and mile marker 79. this is about 25 miles north of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Police said the driver of a 2004 Ford Expedition traveled the wrong way northbound in the southbound lanes of I-15. At the same moment, a Volvo semi-tractor trailer drove southbound on I-15 in the right lane.

Police said the two crashed head-on. Both caught fire and came to rest in the desert center median.

The driver of the Ford, identified as Marcus Anthony Harrell, 42, died at the scene. He was from Mohave Valley, Arizona.

“The investigation is being conducted by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol – Traffic Homicide Unit,” police said. “2025 Year to date: The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command has investigated 19 fatal crashes resulting in 19 fatalities.”
