CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – A new bill is looking to officially sanction the sport of lacrosse in Nevada high schools.
Lacrosse is currently a club sport.
A hearing was held for SB 305 at the Legislature on Monday with dozens of lacrosse players on hand to show their support.
“A lot of people don’t take lacrosse as serious as it should be taken,” said Reno High senior Lacrosse captain Maggie Grimes. “Right now we don’t have tryouts and that makes people think it isn’t as important of a sport or isnt as serious.”
If it ends up passing, it will allow the NIAA to adopt regulations for adding official lacrosse programs at Nevada high schools.
One of the groups pushing hard for this to pass is the Las Vegas Desert Dogs, a professional team that plays in Henderson, as several members of the teams front office made the trip to Carson City to talk before the Legislature on Monday.
