LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Officials with The Animal Foundation are preparing to give dozens of Southern Nevada shelter pets a fresh start—by air.
The Animal Foundation has been selected for an upcoming transport flight with Dog Is My CoPilot, supported by Best Friends Animal Society.
On April 6, the group will arrive in Las Vegas to transport up to 30 shelter dogs—along with the possibility of a few cats—to rescue partners in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they will have new opportunities to be adopted into permanent homes.
The Animal Foundation is raising funds to purchase airline-approved travel crates needed to safely transport the animals on the April flight—timed ahead of the shelter’s busiest season.
Organizers estimate they must raise about $4,000 to purchase flight-approved crates in a variety of sizes. Without the crates, the animals cannot make the trip.
The transport comes at a critical time, officials say. As the region heads into the summer months, shelter intake and population typically rise quickly, especially for large dogs. Creating space now helps prevent overcrowding, reduces stress on animals in the shelter’s care, and ensures the organization can continue providing a safe place for pets who need it.
