LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The man accused of a shooting at a Las Vegas construction site was previously fired, documents say.
FOX5 obtained the arrest report for John Garcia. According to court records, he faces nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a weapon without a permit, attempted murder, and making threats. Las Vegas Metro Police said he shot at a construction site near Bradley Road and Deer Springs Way Friday.
The arrest report revealed he was fired over a week before the shooting. The morning of April 23, construction employees filed an incident with police against Garcia. He allegedly told one of his co-workers, “I am going to catch you and your family on the street.”
That day, one of Garcia’s co-workers was talking about buying a firearm and he asked if they knew how to use one. At one point during the conversation, Garcia said, “we are about to find out.”
A fight would ensue. The report said Garcia went back to his truck, returned with a knife and threatened his coworkers. He would be fired because of this.
Garcia would report to another job on the opposite side of town at Elkhorn and Bradley.
Friday, the report said Garcia went back to the initial construction site and started shooting toward his coworkers. Metro Police said he had a rifle. He would be shot in the shoulder area as at least one his former coworkers fired back.
Police said this exchange was caught on surveillance video.
Garcia would be apprehended by North Las Vegas police with his pickup truck.
In an interview with LVMPD, Garcia said he was struggling to put food on the table for his family and care for his children. He also claimed his coworkers were giving him a hard time.
Officers would also interview his wife. She told officers she knew about the shooting and he would “do crazy things while drunk.” She said Garcia was under a lot of stress and having issues with his coworkers.
Garcia is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on May 20 at 10 a.m.
