LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Six new names were added Thursday to the Miles of Memories along Kyle Canyon, continuing a tradition that honors victims of DUI crashes.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Stop DUI held a ceremony highlighting new additions to Miles for Memories, and giving families a chance to remember the victims. Kyle Canyon is the only state route in the entire country dedicated to DUI victims.
Metro Police, Stop DUI Nevada and Mount Charleston Fire and Rescue held an event to honor the six new signs. Some signs are two-sided, noting a pair of siblings, a parent and child or a husband and wife.
“Every DUI crash is preventable. Every one of them. It’s a choice. It’s not an accident that this occurred,” Lieutenant Cody Fulwiler said during the ceremony. “Today, we remember not just how your family members died. But how they lived.”
The signs will remain up until January 7, with an emphasis on staying up through the Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year’s holidays.
