LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Southern Nevada Health District is urging residents to take precautions as respiratory illnesses surge in the region.
Health officials emphasize that RSV, COVID-19, and flu are posing an increased, combined risk as activity continues to be high throughout Clark County. For the 2024-25 flu season (October to May), the district has reported seven deaths and 438 influenza-related hospitalizations so far.
Last year, the district only reported 294 hospitalizations and 13 deaths for the entire flu season.
As of Jan. 8, community wastewater surveillance revealed moderate concentrations of the virus that causes COVID-19, and high concentrations of RSV and Influenza A.
For those wanting to defend themselves against the surge, health officials recommend staying up-to-date on vaccinations, washing your hands, and avoiding public areas if you are sick.
Those experiencing symptoms are encouraged to seek treatment.
