LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Big changes are on the way to Mountain’s Edge Regional Park.
A more than $40 million grant from the Bureau of Land Management will be used to expand the park, adding a new pickleball complex, soccer fields, and a botanical garden.
Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones says they worked hard to secure the funding to meet the needs of Mountain’s Edge Community residents.
“Part of the pitch for Mountain’s Edge, and a lot of these master plan communities, is it’s really a place for families to live, work and play, and parks are such a tremendously important part of that,” Jones says.
He expects the project to break ground late 2026, early 2027.
Several parents in the community say security needs to be top of mind during the expansion, after years of dealing with groups of teenagers swarming the park and surrounding areas on their bikes.
“They go from the streets, to the playground, to the fields,” Mountain’s Edge Mother Serena Lam says. “They harass younger kids, they come onto the soccer fields here, I was my daughter’s soccer coach last season, they would come and interfere with our practices, with our games.”
Jones is aware of the problem.
A meeting on Wednesday at 2 p.m. is being held with LVMPD Enterprise Area Command, Clark County’s Public Safety Team, and residents, to discuss potential solutions.
“Certainly enforcement is a piece of that, but we may have to implement an ordinance that clarifies what is appropriate conduct is in our parks,” Jones says.
Lam worries the expansion will aggravate the problem, and hopes they can come to a resolution quickly.
“Yeah, we want a place to play and to expand it, but we need the safety, and in order for him to have the expansion we need the safety,” Lam says.
The meeting will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m. on the 6th floor of the Clark County Government Center.
Jones says along with the expansion of the park, a new $60 million community center is being constructed on the lot. He says although they are two separate projects, the development work will happen at the same time.
He also noted the running trail at the park will not be removed, but may be realigned in certain areas.
