Special Session expanded to include debate over housing

CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – The ongoing Special Session of the Nevada Legislature has been expanded to include debates over the cost of housing.

Two-thirds of the members of each chamber have signed a petition declaring the lack of affordable housing in Nevada an “extraordinary occasion” to be addressed during the 36th Special Session.

The move paves the way for the consideration of legislation limiting corporate ownership of residential housing in Nevada.

“Today, the Nevada Legislature proved that we are a co-equal branch of government responsive to the urgent needs of the people,”said Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro.“Nevada families are struggling to keep a roof over their heads. We are using every tool we can to say enough is enough: affordability is the priority, and we will not leave Carson City until we take action to lower costs.”

Senate Democrats are moving to immediately hear the legislation.
