LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Bad or malicious links will probably pop up in your inbox from time to time. But they won’t pose a problem if you know what not to click.

Use your mouse to hover over the link to get a preview of its actual URL. If it doesn’t match the text or context of the email – that’s a red flag. Other warning signs can include excessive periods or hyphens, odd number sequences, and misspellings. Also, be wary of link shorteners that can mask a link’s destination. They can easily be revealed by using a link expander website.

Remember: think before you click!

Always be suspicious of unexpected links. If you receive an email from a familiar sender that looks unusual, enter the correct web address manually or use a bookmark. Finally, avoid clicking on HTML attachments – they may contain viruses or malware.
