RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – 7 P.M. UPDATE: State officials said Wednesday they are going to court to force Washoe County commissioners to certify the canvass of the election recount.

Three Washoe County commissioners voted Tuesday not to certify recounts for a county commission seat and a school board seat.

On Wednesday afternoon, Commissioner Clara Andriola, who voted not to certify the election, said she has asked that it be reconsidered at next week’s commission meeting.

However, Nevada Secretary of State Francisco V. Aguilar and Nevada Attorney General Aaron D. Ford issued a joint statement saying they asked the courts to step in.

“This week, three county commissioners refused to canvass accurate election results as required by law,” Aguilar said in the statement. “This vote has the potential to set a dangerous precedent for elections in Nevada. It is unacceptable that any public officer would undermine the confidence of their voters.”

Aguilar filed a petition for a Writ of Mandamus with the Nevada Supreme Court seeking to have the canvass certified. Both Aguilar and Ford said the action by the Washoe County commission undermines the democratic process.

“When the Board of Commissioners failed to perform its duty to certify the authenticated results of the recount, it failed to meet the expectation of Nevada voters that the election results would reflect the votes of the majority,” Ford said.

ORIGINAL STORY: A vote rejecting certification of the results from the recount of two races from the June 11 primary will be reconsidered next week.

The reconsideration will be made on June 16 during a meeting of the county commissioners. The meeting comes at the request of Commissioner Clara Andriola.

In a statement, Andriola said that as the item is still pending, she had no further comment.
