LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Henderson Police Department rolled out a new initiative to recognize victims and survivors of abuse.

The department is adding strangulation resource kits in every patrol car.

The new tools will help officers assess victims and gather evidence when responding to a domestic violence call.

Officers will be able to identify internal injuries that may not be visible to the eye.

Henderson police say survivors of strangulation are at a higher risk for future violence.

The department announced these kits as October marks domestic violence awareness month.
