LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A strong winter storm is bringing widespread rain, mountain snow, and gusty winds to the Las Vegas Valley Thursday morning.
Rainfall is expected to range between 0.25″ and 0.75″ through Friday. The National Weather Service says Las Vegas has officially received 0.01 inches of rain around 7 a.m., ending the valley’s dry streak of 214 days.
Since the valley has gone so long without rainfall, roads are expected to be slick and possibly filled with debris.
Mt. Charleston and Lee Canyon could see 1 to 2 feet of fresh snow, and officials advise travelers to prepare for hazardous travel. Highway signs will advise if four-wheel drive, and snow tires or chains.
North Las Vegas tells FOX5 that their public works teams have been doing routine inspections and cleanings of flood facilities ahead of the storm. Agencies across the valley say they have teams ready on standby to address issues that may arise from the storm.
Harry Reid International Airport says that they will continue to work closely with the FAA and monitor conditions to prepare for any impacts. As of 7 a.m., 58 flights have been delayed in and out of Las Vegas, and 4 flights have been canceled.
So far, other cancellations in the valley include the Montagna Park Farmers Market in Henderson.
This is a developing story, check back later for updates.
