LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A student was arrested for a firearm found at a Las Vegas high school, the Clark County School District said.
CCSD provided a letter to FOX5 sent to families about the incident. A letter was sent by Cimarron-Memorial High School’s Principal, Colin McNaught.
“School safety is a top priority for us at Cimarron-Memorial High School. In an effort to keep you informed of matters happening within our community, I want to make you aware of an incident that occurred today on campus,” McNaught said.
After a report, CCSD Police officers recovered a firearm. A student was arrested and the district says there were no threats to students or staff.
“All CCSD policies and procedures are being followed, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken,” McNaught said.
The letter says the incident is an opportunity to discuss school safety with students.
“If they ever face a situation where they are unsure whether or not to share information with an adult, please remind them to never hesitate to report anything that may be a safety issue,” McNaught said.
Students and parents can make reports through the SafeVoice reporting system by calling 1-833-216-SAFE(7233), through the website at safevoicenv.org or through the free downloadable phone app.
“We would also like to remind parents to have a discussion with their students about following the CCSD Student Code of Conduct,” the letter said. “The consequences of violating the Code of Conduct can result in students facing disciplinary action and parents will be involved if their child violates these conduct expectations.”
