LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Students at Eldorado High School are now allowed to wear traditional tribal, cultural and religious regalia at graduation, a letter to the school’s families says.
This comes after FOX5′s Shawna Khalafi reported that a senior’s custom-made regalia with the Guatemalan flag representing her mother’s side and Mexico for her late father was denied around May 6.

She was later approved, but some other students’ during that time were not.
The ACLU of Nevada got involved. Executive director, Athar Haseebullah, claimed that the Clark County School District could have been breaking a law by blocking students from wearing traditional regalia, referring to when the district rescinded the Graduation Participation Agreement.
CCSD sent this statement to FOX5 Wednesday: “As of April 19, 2024, the Clark County School District rescinded the Graduation Participation Agreement. Students are permitted to wear traditional tribal regalia or recognized objects of religious or cultural significance as an adornment to their cap and gown in accordance with AB73. CCSD encourages all students and families to be mindful of the occasion and respectful of their fellow graduates so that everyone can enjoy the ceremony equally.”
The letter to the school’s families also has the same statement.
